BRIDGING CONNECTION

FROM THE OFFICE DIRECTOR

Last month, I was struck by force of the March winds as they blustered in the garden outside my window. As I pondered how the winds actually help the trees to mature and grow stronger, able to sustain the stresses that will come later, I heard an invitation from our Lord about the winds in my own life.

Sleepers Awake
It's time to wake, trees
From your winter sleep!
Come, March winds!
Come, blustering breeze!

Come before the birds have settled there,
Or buds cover the branches bare,
Call forth the dormant life,
Rouse them from the winter's night.

Rough winds are blowing around me too,
Do I have the faith to know it's You?
Not a threat to the nest nor to the tender bud,
Just an invitation to awaken to Your love.

It's time wake, You say to me,
Rouse from your winter sleep!
Come, March winds,
Come, blustering breeze!
Come, Lord Jesus, to life in me!

Meet Our Vocation Ministers
I consider myself blessed to work with an incredible team of Vocation Ministers, lay and consecrated men and women who work together to promote a culture of vocation and Consecrated Life in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. It is our hope that young people will discover the path planned for them through our endeavors. I would like you to meet these wonderful people.

Tracy Kemme, SC
I’m Tracy Kemme, a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati. I professed perpetual vows in 2020, and I began my ministry as Vocation Coordinator in 2021. Even though I started officially only last summer, I’ve felt drawn to this ministry since early in my formation. It’s one of those inexplicable calls. I first resisted God’s invitation to religious life, but once I embraced the path, I began to feel a great passion for sharing it with others. Like many Catholic young adults, I didn’t know any young Sisters growing up, and I had little understanding of contemporary religious life. I wanted to do what I could to tell our stories so that young adults know this is a viable and vibrant possibility for their lives.

During formation, I wrote a blog, Diary of a Sister-in-Training, and columns for Global Sisters Report to share my journey with a broad readership. I assisted our vocation director with discernment opportunities and learned from her wisdom. Now, I am growing into the role of leading our vocation program, and it can be exciting, grace-filled, and daunting all at the same time. I delight most in building relationships with discerners. It is a humbling privilege to walk beside young adult women as they seek God’s call and to share the charism that has traveled and evolved through generations of amazing Sisters of Charity.  I received such generous accompaniment from my vocation director and formation communities, and now I get to pass on that gift. Come, Holy Spirit.

Caroljean (Cj) Willie, a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati, and currently the program director at EarthConnection, their environmental center, works with Andrew Musgrave on the Care for Creation task force and also represents the Archdiocese on the interdiocesan LSAP collaborative with him. She worked for eight years at the United Nations as the NGO representative for the Sisters of Charity Federation before accepting the position at EarthConnection. She has traveled extensively throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North Americas and know first-hand the devastation that is being caused due to climate change. Together with Teresa Phillips she has put together a program which would include not only a presentation, but also small group breakout sessions to share what each community is doing. One of the hallmarks of Laudato Si' is the emphasis on collaboration and want to bring the various congregations together to share resources. Caroljean has given numerous presentations on Laudato Si' since it came out in 2015, not only in the United States, but in a number of other countries as well.

FINAL VOWS

Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Annie Klapheke to Profess Final Vows

The Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati are pleased to announce the Congregation will celebrate Sister Annie Klapheke’s profession of final vows during a liturgy on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. ET in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at the Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse (Delhi Township).

Due to current precautions on the Motherhouse campus, the vow ceremony will be more intimate than the usual communal celebration. Only Sisters and invited guests will be present with Sister Annie in the chapel. Friends of the Sisters of Charity Community are invited to join via livestream. The link will be posted on the home page of the Sisters of Charity website (www.srcharitycinti.org). A program to follow along will also be found on the website closer to the May 7 date.

In addition, during the liturgy the Community will give thanks for Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Tracy Kemme. Sister Tracy professed her final vows in July 2020, during some of the most restrictive days of the pandemic. Both Sisters Annie and Tracy are excited to have the opportunity to gather and celebrate together.

Please join us in prayer for Sister Annie during this special time of preparation. The Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati are most grateful for her ‘yes’ and for this joyful celebration of faithful witness, community and commitment.
