MARCH 2023

A Time of Grace and Blessing

One of the best parts of my work is having a chance to meet with parish leaders and hear about the early successes of Beacons of Light in our 57 Families of Parishes.  Of course, those stories are usually accompanied by enduring some struggles as well.  While this five-year initiative is going well overall, it’s true that some of the day-to-day implementation is thorny and difficult.  If you haven’t already checked it out, the recent Parish Vitality Report will give you some insights into these early successes and challenges. Thank you for your continuing work on Beacons of Light in your Family of Parishes.

Knowing how busy all of you are during these most holy seasons of Lent, Triduum, and Eastertide, you’ll be hearing less from the CPV team from mid-March to mid-April. Please know that all of us here in the Center for Parish Vitality stand ready and willing to assist you in any way needed to make the planning process successful in your Family.

May the remaining days of Lent be a time of grace and blessing for you, your family, your colleagues in ministry, and your entire Family of Parishes. May the Spirit of the crucified and risen Lord continue to guide our archdiocese as we continue the mission of radiating the love of Christ to all!

Annual Planning Report

Families of Parishes must develop a pastoral plan for parish vitality, submitted at least annually, reviewed by the dean, to be approved by the archbishop in conformity with the parameters of the Pastoral Planning Pathway according to the published timeline.

-Parameter 2, Beacons of Light

This plan is to articulate how the 6 principles are being realized and to measure conformity to the 31 planning parameters, all in the service of our Families of Parishes being vital faith communities. It is prepared by the Family Leadership Team, signed by the pastor, and co-signed by the leader(s) of the pastoral council(s). This report is reviewed by the dean and ultimately submitted to the archbishop.

NOW AVAILABLE:

  • Read-only version so Family leaders can prepare
  • Tutorial video walks through the template

At its best, faith impacts life. This is the principle behind Impact, a monthly resource to form people as disciples and good stewards who share their gifts and faith, making an impact in their lives and the life of the world. Each month, Impact focuses on themes found in the Sunday readings, connecting Mass with the call to discipleship, growing as good stewards, and sharing faith in daily life.

Impact may be used in your bulletin, on your website, or sent in email blasts to parishioners.

EASTERTIDE PRAYER RESOURCE FOR FAMILY LEADERS

One of the most fundamental things Family leaders can do is to pray together. Prayer aligns our ministry with God’s vision and praying unites our hearts and minds with one another through Christ. A prayer resource has been prepared for Family Leadership Teams and other groups of leaders to use during the Easter season. The resource draws on the readings for the coming Sunday so that leaders will be especially prepared for the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist.  Consider this for your weekly FLT mtg, full staff mtg, pastoral council mtg, or other gathering of parish leaders.

Pastors, in collaboration with parochial vicars, deacons and lay ministers, according to their proper roles and charisms, share responsibility for pastoral leadership. The spiritual, physical and mental health and ongoing support of ordained and lay leaders is vital for Families of Parishes.
