Light the Match Conference
August 11-12, 2025

The summer season is one of heat (I really hope your A/C is working this week!), travel, and for many of us, a schedule that looks nothing like the rest of the school year. In the midst of this season, I hope that you'll take time to invest in yourself personally and professionally.

The Light the Match Conference is one of those ways to invest in your growth. Light the Match is a two-day conference designed to energize you and your evangelization team for the year ahead and includes dynamic keynote talks, a variety of breakout topics, and great food and fellowship right here in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

Josh Danis, the Head of Parish and Diocesan Partnerships for the Hallow App, will invite us to reflect on our parish culture, how to better incorporate joy and hope into our culture, and set us up for breakout topics including AI & the Church; On Mission With Your Catholic School; and an entire track specifically to set up new parish staff for success in their first two years.

Click HERE to see all breakout options, the full schedule, and to register.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
AND REMINDERS
Together Sunday
Sunday, September 14

Together Sunday is more than a moment—it’s the beginning of a movement toward becoming a more welcoming and hospitable community. Every Sunday, we gather to worship Christ in the Eucharist—and every Sunday is an opportunity to open our doors and our hearts more widely.

With Together Sunday, parishes are invited to take a fresh look at how they welcome people: not only through smiles and greetings, but through a culture that sees, accompanies, and invites. With resources for formation and tools for action, this initiative empowers parish communities to strengthen relationships, foster connection, and become places of belonging for all who enter.

Join us on July 15 or 17 for an online Leader Launch to learn more and get started in your Family of Parishes!

Young adults are experiencing a "loneliness epidemic" and the only way to combat this is through community. Encourage the young adults in your parish to join the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's Young Adult Community Network to form connections with others and grow in their faith. They can join on our website (queencitycatholic.org) or through the QR code.

NFP Awareness Week 2025
July 20 - 26

National NFP Awareness Week, July 20-26, is a national educational campaign by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to focus attention on natural family planning methods and the Church teachings that support its use in marriage.

The dates of National NFP Awareness Week highlight the anniversary of Humanae Vitae (July 25), which articulates Catholic beliefs about human sexuality, marital love, and responsible parenthood. During this week we also celebrate the feast day of Saints Joachim and Anne (July 26), the parents of the Blessed Mother. For more archdiocesan information, contact nfp@catholicaoc.org.

Young Adult Catholic Sports Survey

Please help us gauge the interest in launching a Catholic Sports League for young adults in Cincinnati in by taking the survey below. In order to launch a new city, we need to raise launch funds for the first two years and establish a core volunteer leadership team.

Safe Haven Sunday
Sunday, August 10th 2025

Safe Haven Sunday is a weekend set aside within the liturgical calendar by dioceses and parishes to directly address the societal harms of pornography. It is Inspired by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) formal statement, Create in Me a Clean Heart: A Pastoral Response to Pornography.

Safe Haven Sunday is an archdiocesan-wide initiative on the weekend of August 10, near the Feast of St. Philomena, "Champion of Chastity". For more information, click the button below:

Because parish ministries tend to slow down a bit, the Summer is a good time to step back, look at how you conduct initiation ministry, and implement improvements. Now is the time to get your questions answered, review a new resource, get some formation in initiation ministry, or plan for that Lenten retreat for catechumens that always seems to sneak up on you. In that light, here are some formation opportunities from LTP, including a new offering in November:

Orientation Sessions for New OCIA Coordinators:

Implementing the Year-Round Catechumenate
| Nov. 10, 17, 24 | 8:00 p.m. | $50

I am also happy to meet with you and your initiation team for training, planning around implementation, or answering questions. Let me know how I can help!

The Peace of Christ to you,
Nicholas Hardesty, Assoc. Dir. of Adult Evangelization & OCIA

Called and Gifted Team Training
November 3rd & 4th
Church of the Ascension
Dayton, Ohio

The CNE will be providing Called & Gifted Team Training on Mon., Nov. 3 and Tues., Nov. 4, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Church of the Ascension (2025 Woodman Dr, Dayton, OH, 45420).

Called & Gifted Team Training will equip you and your key leaders to provide charism discernment for your parishioners so that they can know and live according to the spiritual gifts they received in their Baptism. Mary Martin and Colleen O’Dowd from the Catherine of Siena Institute will lead this two-day training. Both days of the training are required.

You and your team need to have completed the three-step Called & Gifted charism discernment process before attending Team Training. The three steps are:

  1. Called & Gifted Workshop (live or online), which includes completion of the Spiritual Gifts Inventory
  2. Charism Interview (in-person or via Zoom)
  3. Charism Experimentation (personally or via a Discernment-in-Depth Small Group)

Registration for the Team Training is $50/person and is available at the button below. This covers lunch and all training materials for both days. There is a Q&A on the registration page that should address any questions you have about the Team Training, completing the three steps, and the charisms in general. You can also contact Nicholas Hardesty (nhardesty@catholicaoc.org) if you have any questions.

Since this is two full days of training, our hope is that, by giving you advanced notice, you will have time to reserve both days before your calendar fills up. This will also give you time to complete the three steps before the Team Training begins. Mark your calendar now!
