Where There Is Vision...

Chapter 29 in the Book of Proverbs, the New American Bible (NAB), the translation we read from at Mass, renders verse 18a: “Without prophecy the people become demoralized.” I rather prefer the King James translation of the same verse: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” I like playing with that little piece of scripture a bit and restating it as, “Where there is vision the people pArish.” That is to say where there is vision or the mode of seeing or conceiving, of discernment and foresight there, in that place is where the people of God become a community, a parish….a Church.

Phase 3: Culture

Up to now, the primary focus and attention of Beacons of Light has been on establishing a leadership team and creating a vision.  Now our strengthened Families of Parishes are ready to purposefully grow and embed your Family’s missionary vision into your ecclesial culture: the lifestyle of your Family leadership, your parishioners, and from there into your community.

Learn more about how Phase 3 will help your leadership team take steps towards new ways of forming and sending disciples to fulfill the Great Commission.

Phase 3

Coming Fall 2024

40 million people have left Christianity in the last 25 years. Only 16% of Americans consider religion the most important thing in their lives. And half of Millennial Catholics have left the Church. Why do so many people fall away? And what can we as Parish Leadership do about it?

Through engaging exercises and an insightful video series, Disciples Radiate Christ will show leaders in all parish roles practical ways to form disciples in three key areas:

  • Disciples Witness
  • Disciples Serve
  • Disciples Steward

A Spirit-Filled Vision

“We the members of the Holy Spirit Family of Parishes, will foster discipleship by making the Eucharist the center of our lives as we form, live, and share our faith.” The vision discernment began at the Family's Vision Day. Following that day, a series of meetings were held with parishioner leaders, including an ad hoc vision group that was created by the Family Leadership Team. “Our vision statement will help shape the future of our Family of Parishes by keeping our eyes, hearts, and minds focused on what we agree is the essence of our role (what we are called to do) as Catholics. That is being Eucharist-centered, as we foster discipleship,” explains Lynne Mosley, Leadership Team Head.

The vision is being brought to life through studies on the Eucharist; the statement is read every weekend at all Masses during the announcement time. It will be visible on the Family website and is recited at parish meetings; the vision is incorporated into homilies as fitting with the readings and parish groups sometimes take extended time to reflect on the statement.

“This vision statement will be successful because the entire Holy Spirit Family of Parishes membership created it.”

- Fr. Francis Tandoh, C.S.Sp.
