We can't deny it
|
Since the beginnings of our efforts with Beacons of Light you have heard time and again the importance of keeping the “Why” of what we are doing in the forefront of our minds. If we do not remain focused on the “Why” and forget the reason behind the endeavor, our plan will fail! As a reminder, that “Why” is specifically, “Missionary Discipleship” … bringing others to Jesus! That “Why” is about building up and not tearing down the our faith communities!
With that, I have also to point out that there is a “Why” as to the difficulty of our efforts. Why is this so tough, sometimes heartbreaking, thankless work that none of us really has a desire for? Why are our people sometimes so intransigent? There are many “Why’s” that contribute to this difficulty!

The Power of a Vision
One third of our Families of Parishes have nearly or fully finished the work of Phase 2: creating a vision, envisioning a future together fully engaged in the mission of the Church. Another third have started but not completed this foundational step toward moving their Family of Parishes forward to serve the apostolic mission of the church. To find out more about the work being done by parish leaders in Phase 2, check out the Pastoral Planning Pathway for more.

Leadership
|
|
"The decisions regarding how to best arrange resources – human, financial, physical – to pursue our God-given mission will be discerned and made locally, specific to the circumstances and opportunities within each Family of Parishes. Leadership is and will continue to be essential to this process."
"Over the past eighteen months, Family Leadership Teams have come together, key staff members have been designated or are being hired, and leadership training has been provided. This is only the beginning. As the leadership principle of Beacons of Light indicates, there is an ongoing need for priests, deacons, and lay leaders to grow in skill and collaboration to discern the best steps toward missionary discipleship in their respective Families."
Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr has written a letter to the faithful of the archdiocese regarding the Leadership principle of Beacons of Light.

A garden project not only provides sustenance to the hungry, but also fosters a stronger sense of community. Meg Anderson and Matt Davidson, married parishioners of the Crescent Family of Parishes just east of Cincinnati, share a passion for
gardening. Last year, they learned of a Dayton-area cooperative that turned unused green space into gardens to feed the hungry.
