Co-Responsibility

The Leadership principle of Beacons of Light states that "pastors, in collaboration with parochial vicars, deacons and lay ministers, according to their proper roles and charisms, share responsibility for pastoral leadership."

Another name for this is simply "co-responsibility" The 2020 Vatican Instruction "The pastoral conversion of the parish..." makes clear that successful leadership of a parish community - and in our case, a Family of Parishes - requires such collaboration between the clergy and the laity. While the Church isn't exactly a democracy, it's not a dictatorship either.

Read more about this foundational principle for healthy leadership in our Families of Parishes and consider how your own Family leadership - clergy, lay staff, parishioner leaders - can better work together to build up the kingdom of God in your parishes and support your Family in truly becoming a beacon of light!

ADVENT & CHRISTMAS

How will Advent & Christmas be different in your Family of Parishes than in a single parish or even your former pastoral region? How will the celebration of these seasons truly be a time of grace for you? What will being part of a Family of Parishes mean for your time-honored traditions?

Share your plans and your questions to hear ideas from your colleagues in the Pathway discussion forum.

Synod and Beacons

The Archdiocesan pastoral planning initiative Beacons of Light commenced at roughly the same time as Pope Francis announced a Universal Synod on Synodality. These two initiatives (synod and Beacons) are not in competition, but rather are complementary.

If implemented properly, Beacons of Light will lead to a more synodal Church, and the synod itself will provide an explicit opportunity for listening to the Holy Spirit as our Families of Parishes enter into the pastoral planning process.

"Trusting in the power of Christ and His Spirit and taking confidence in the Virgin Mary, whose children we have become, the People of God in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati prepare for the journey that lies ahead. In speaking of the Church as a family that journeys together, we can speak of synodality in the Church and of the Church."

- Bishop Earl Fernandes, Journeying Together
